Call me immature if you want, but my wife and I still celebrate Christmas as if we were a couple of kids. There are candles in the window, a twinkling tree in the living room, and a fire burning gently in the fireplace. There's even a couple of gifts under the tree - but they are gifts that others have given to us.

Instead of buying the traditional gift that gets used for a few days and then disposed of in a closet of a room of our house that we barely remember having, my wife and I got creative with our gifts this year. I bought for her only one gift, and she bought for me only one gift...

I bought my wife 400 shares of stock in Resource Capital Corp. (RSO), and she bought me 125 shares of stock in Gabelli Global Gold, Natural Resources & Income (GGN). Each gift cost approximately $2K, so these are in no way petty gifts. Each gift yields a really sweet dividend every month, so these are gifts that will continue to reward us. Each gift will fluctuate in value with every trading day, so these are gifts that will continue to give us the thrill and suspense of never quite knowing. And, of course, each gift cannot be sold (by our agreement with each other) until the next Christmas comes around.
