Stocks to Watch for April 27, 2010
Posted On 04/27/2010 03:19:58 by Underworlds

Yesterday (Monday) I did a little experiment and picked five stocks to watch. Various technical indicators were analyzed and compared to one another in a filter which selected the stocks for me.

Most of those stocks performed exceptionally well throughout the day, with some reaching exceptional profit highs as follows -

Symbol_____OPEN_____CLOSE_____HIGH_____CHNG%_____MAX%
HILL_____1.86_____1.87_____1.9_____0.54%_____2.15%
GLUU_____1.35_____1.66_____1.69_____22.96%_____25.19%
END_____1.65_____1.65_____1.68_____0%_____1.82%
GFLB_____1.25_____1.46_____2.25_____16.8%_____80%
ETAK_____2.05_____2.05_____2.1_____0%_____2.44%

I have since refined my filter, and have decided to publish tomorrow's picks here for everyone to put on their watchlists.

Symbol_____04/26/2010
TONE_____0.82
UWBK_____2.2
JTX_____1.84
TIBB_____1.57
BOFL_____1.19
GKK_____3.36
FMAR_____2.18
FNSC_____1.43
CIIC_____1.78
CASB_____2.75
BAYN_____1.92
NOVB_____2.9
NVGN_____1.98
AEHR_____3.01

Note that this is a new and ongoing filter experiment to see if I can create a filter to pick stocks that are spiking in share price or that are preparing to spike. Always do your own research before investing in a company's stock.

Okay, using the exact same filter as before, only one stock met all the criteria to be selected for tomorrow's watchlist. It is ASFN, currently closed at 3.43 a share.

Since today was such a down day, I anticipate that there will be quite a few stocks making highs tomorrow. I'm just curious what type of a high ASFN will make... so onto the watchlist it goes.

Well, wouldn't you know it would happen. I worked hard to put together a filter that I thought would return great results. As soon as I decide to put it to the test, the entire market takes a nosedive. It's a good thing that this was not a "live" test with real money at stake.

In a way though, today's decline in the market did help me to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the filter. In the end, I do believe that the filter was a success. Here's why...

Not counting the stocks on the OTCBB, only 18 stocks closed 15% or more higher than yesterday's close. Those stocks were: NEXM, SNSS, PCBC, GRAN, IGC, CRUS, DSW, CIIC, MSPD, ASFN, IGC.W, MSII, AWRE, IGC.U, ATBC, BYG, GLA.W, and MGYR. With 7,233 stocks trading today (OTCBB excluded), these 18 stocks represent the top 0.25% today. That means that my filter did select one of the top 0.25% stocks for the day - CIIC.

Additionally, only 39 stocks closed 10% or more higher than yesterday's close. With my filter selecting both FMAR and CIIC, I was able to select two stocks within the top 0.54% performers for the day.

Furthermore, only 196 stocks closed 4% or more higher than yesterday's close. With my filter selecting FMAR, CIIC and AEHR, I was able to select three stocks within the top 2.71% performers for the day.

Of course, I'm not too happy with the other eleven stocks closing lower than yesterday, but I'm at least happier than investors who lost money on the 5,697 stocks that lost out today which, by the way, represents 78.76% of the trading market.
